Crimping

Something done to one's style, or a pie crust, or very small climbing holds, the latter of which we did this afternoon for a bit.
Finished the Sherwood Anderson volume, and started Pamuk's novel "Snow." It's looking, even early on, to be engaging. The setting, mostly Istanbul, is imbued with ancient layers of political, religious and economic history. Pamuk taps into this deep background so fluently.

Hey, kathyr. Nope, I'm not much of a pie fan, although if there's one fresh out of the oven, and it's around breakfast time...

isabelita,

I still haven't gotten "Snow," but was intrigued by a quick run at it. Thought you'd be interested in what I wrote about it last December:

"Once back in the house, most of the gang decided to take a nap; that is anathema to me, because I feel that I'm missing out on valuable time being conscious of good things around me. So, while they were sleeping, I began reading a book that I found on the table on the sun porch on the middle level of the house. The book, Snow, was written by Orhan Pamuk who, I subsequently learned, was imprisoned in Turkey for his attacks on anti-democratic behaviors on the part of the government. I only read chapter 1, but I was sufficiently hooked by the end of the chapter that I decided I need to buy it. "

Mr. Musings, it's proving to be excellent. Knowing about Pamuk's personal history, his urgent and long-standing belief in freedom of speech, I am finding he's blending accute observation of the conflict between politicized religion and secular nationalism. If you get time, keep going with it and keep me posted on your reaction.

You can tell I'm writing this near dinner time as my mind got stuck on the pie. What kind are we having?
