Hiking in REI

As the rains have arrived, we were not hitting the wilderness trail. Got mom out to REI with her trekking poles, and meandered all over the store for an afternoon. She used to take us school clothes shopping when we were teens, which we disliked; turns out she didn't like shopping herself, a point of view we didn't consider back then.

Do they have a climbing wall in your REI? That's one fun, non-shopping related thing to do there..and if Iremember correctly, your's is the world HQ...right?

There is a large climbing structure there, which I've never gone on. It used to be free, now they charge for letting you do one single route. While we were there, some sort of team-building exercise was going on, with a group from some corporation taking turns trying routes, then cheering and clapping wildly. I think it's one of REI's little side offerings.

Zoiks...charging for the loss leader? Only in America. It's supposed to get you in the store to buy things. Do they then rebate the fee if you do?

I've done a bunch of team building on ropes courses all about, and the wall is a good exercise, but can be very individual oriented.

"Nuke the Gay Baby Whales for Jesus". We WERE clever back in the '60's, weren't we? And successful, too. I mean, how many Gay Baby Whales are there left? Not at one, by my instant reckoning. I just have a gut feeling on that.
