Not much to observe yesterday; the day improved a bit, the sun appeared, then went down without warming us up much. Watching BBC News, we were shocked to learn how many high end professionals were out of work in the UK. The whole country is suffering, not just their hod carriers. Perhaps it seems worse than this country, since it's smaller and more concentrated in population. There are terrible trends here, too, but it seems as if it has to snowball for a while before becoming as noticeable.

We keep wondering if things are going to get better, the way Treasury and the Fed say it will; or if they're going to really get worse before they get better, the way Obama said they will. I have a feeling things are going to get worse. I wish all those tea-baggers out there yesterday didn't scare me so much with their weird talk.
Some advisors told Obama to stop being "negative", i.e., honest about what's happening. The US economy, and others around the planet, are not going to be the big junk-churning operations they were until recently. Frankly, I see no reason why humans should be consuming the obscene amounts of crap that they do, so in my view, if economies of the world decline, it's a good development.
