Eclipsed

Maybe it was just knowing the lunar eclipse was going to happen that woke me up as it started; drifting off, I woke as it was ending. Not as dramatic in a big urban area with much light pollution, but still pretty clear. Wonder what hellish sort of omen it was.
Nearing the end of Romola, and it's been a strange journey.

I had planned to awake and get a look at the eclipse, but failed to remember at the right time. Dammit! Oh, your pit bull experience was jolting, too. My family had pit bulls as I was growing up and they were as sweet as can be. Today, I wouldn't have one for fear of being killed by an abused dog that was bred to kill. Such a shame. Fundamentally, they are wonderful dogs, turned into monsters by...monsters.

mfm, I saw a very nice time lapse photo composite of the eclipse on a site listed on Everybody Knows. It's called LAist, and it's on one of the most recent pages.
Poor dogs. So many breeds over the years have been abused, German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Dobermans -
And the worst bite I ever got was from some little "fyce dog" a neighbor had! That's a term I found in a Faulkner novel, "fyce dog." Little nasty dogs, of indeterminate breed.

And I was awake at the beginning of it, tracking down phantom noises in the house. I did look out the window and saw just the beginning of a shadow on the moon before I grumped back to bed.

Roger and I woke at 2:50 and watched as the moon was completely revealed unlit. It was beautiful. I'll have to head over to that site to watch the time-lapse.
