Full moon streaming through the blinds at three a.m., and it woke me up widely. When I turn to my trusty book, I find strange tales of wolves. Sleep eludes me.
I have found that more often than not the sky tends to be clear during a full moon, so the house is full of light all night. Never have I wished for clouds except on those nights.
I was telling my wife not more than a week ago about a dream in which I awoke in the wee hours to what I perceived to be hissing sounds. As I got up from bed, in the dream, I noticed that moonlight filled the house (which was utterly unlike our house...more like a country cottage, with rough stone floors). The hissing sounds changed character as I neared the kitchen and then I saw a pair of docile-looking wolves with yellow eyes; I realized the hisses I heard were actually the panting sounds of the wolves. The wolves had collars and leashes attached to them, but I could not see the other end of the leashes. When I got to the entryway of the kitchen, I heard "Come, Goldy" and the wolves lept through the other doorway, through the door, and into the yard. And then the house darkened, as if a cloud swiftly blocked the moon's light. From there, the dream either ended or is blank.
So, is this coincidence, or am I becoming lycanthropic? Perhaps more importantly, are you becoming lycanthropic? Or is this just more sound and fury, signifying nothing?
Even when I've been far busier than I am these days, Robin, the full moon has been disturbing...
Hmm, mfm... you might appreciate this short story collection, based upon this dream you've related. No, I'm not full of sound and fury, I mean it when I'm angry.
Isabelita, I wasn't referring to you being full of sound and fury (signifying nothing), I was referring to me and my dream. Is the book with the wolfen stories Burning Your Boats ? I'll have to look for it.
I was wondering why you would say that; no worries. Yes, that is the collected stories of Angela Carter. I was surprised by the nature of her fiction, and there are several novels yet to be read, too.
I've been around since the birth of rock and roll. Went off to college to get a B.F.A. - married my high school sweetheart, love of my life, with whom I still live -
Had a wonderful son, who taught me to climb, after teaching me to be a mother - got a graduate degree in education, taught classroom, tutored the three R's, taught art to elementary kids - I hope to keep active as long as I can.
