Shattered
Lovely reunion with the beloved spouse, who's been away for more than a week; we had a celebratory beverage and some spicy corn bread at a local watering hole. The evening was breezy and clear when we went home, but round midnight, thunderstorms hit the area, waking me up. I moved to another room to read, and fell asleep, only to be rousted at about three ayem by a strong tapping on the window: A family of raccoons, a big one and three smaller ones, lined up and looking in. I got up and smacked the window, which sort of got to them, and they climbed into the big cedar tree at the edge of the porch roof. It poured all night, and into the morning.

Oh those rascally raccoons. They do like to wander around all night long. We have motion sensor lights in our yard, but finally had to turn them off. How many times do we really want to be wakened by raccoons digging in the yard? Seriously, once was definitely enough. Still, it must have been pretty cute to see the little ones looking in at you. Glad your beloved spouse is home.
No. Not cute at three o'clock in the morning! I talked to somebody yesterday who said their sister's family was FEEDING raccoons; they had to stop because the things kept trying to walk into the house. (duh)
We enjoyed the lightening show and the rainstorm as we drove back from Capitol Hill to Issaquah. The sublime sweetness of a shared Rigo Jancsi (Hungarian Chocolate Mousse Cake) and mocha (made with dark chocolate Ephemere ganache!) at the Dilettante Cafe cancelled out the bitter bizarreness of "2 Days in Paris" at the Harvard Exit.
Did Phil serenade you with his bassoon?
Funny, i just saw a raccoon on my run this AM. Must be their visible time of year.
Raccoons: Got any more cornbread?
